Annual program honors more than 150 students from memorial scholarships, organizations and department scholarships and foundations
MOORPARK, Calif. – [May 14, 2012] The Moorpark College Foundation announced today the award of $120,000 in scholarships this school year to 168 students thanks to the generous support from numerous individuals and organizations from the community, region and statewide.
A total of $106,300 in scholarships were awarded at the nonprofit Foundation’s annual scholarship reception April 30 at the campus Performing Arts Center attended by about 150 student family members, college faculty and supporters.
“The students should be quite proud of their accomplishments this year, and the Moorpark College Foundation is very gratified to once again present a remarkable number of scholarships to help local students pursue their dream of education,” said Elad Goren, Chair of the Board of Directors for the Moorpark College Foundation. “It is all made possible by the generous support from the individuals and organizations creating and contributing to these scholarships.”
The scholarships, ranging from $250 to $2,000, were presented by Goren along with Moorpark College President Pam Eddinger and Foundation Vice Chair Jodi Santino. The Foundation thanked the 80 donors involved with the Foundation’s scholarship program.

Moorpark College Foundation Seeks Support for ‘Christmas in July’
Local businesses sought to hang holiday lights July 23 to show support for the college, and kick off inaugural ‘Holiday Lights at Moorpark College’ event
MOORPARK, Calif. – The Moorpark College Foundation opens an invitation for local businesses to participate in its first “Christmas in July” promotion – the kick-off for its inaugural “Holiday Lights at Moorpark College” event in December.
To participate in Christmas in July, businesses simply must agree to hang one or two strings of white holiday lights along their roofline or around the frame of a window on Saturday, July 23, as an indication of support for Moorpark College.
Additionally, participating businesses will be provided with information to distribute on July 23 about the fund-raising Holiday Lights at Moorpark College event, to distribute to their customers. The Holiday Lights event on campus is scheduled for Dec. 3.
“This is an easy opportunity in the middle of summer for the business community to get involved and show support for our campus and what it provides for an educated and productive workforce in the region,” said Pam Eddinger, President of Moorpark College.
“All businesses need to do is have a little fun and flip on some holiday lights for a single night, July 23. It will help introduce our new ‘Holiday Lights at Moorpark College’ event, where the community and college will celebrate the holidays together in a spectacular fashion,” Eddinger said.
For Christmas in July, the Foundation seeks participation by at least 45 local businesses – representing the 45 years Moorpark College will have served students through the end of the 2011-12 school year. Particularly sought are high-visibility locations along freeways or major roadways, or on hilltops, in Moorpark, Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks.
To participate, contact the Foundation at (805) 404-4367 or by emailing kjajko@yahoo.com.
Holiday Lights at Moorpark College is set for Saturday, Dec. 3, co-sponsored by the Moorpark College Foundation and the college’s Associated Students. The centerpiece will be illumination of a large campus building with thousands of holiday lights; supported by a festival with vendors, children’s activities, entertainment and special surprises.
Vendor and sponsorship opportunities are now available. For more information about the Holiday Lights at Moorpark College event, please call (805) 581-2743.
